Heritage Services staff are sharing their lock down tips and this week, Kathryn writes about the joys of audio books.

During Lockdown I’m trying to vary what I listen to, so that news stories are interspersed with more light-hearted listening. Thankfully my local Wiltshire library service enables me to download magazines, e-books and audiobooks for free. While the choice is more limited than the ‘real world’ library there are some great titles available. Recently I was torn between checking out the audio version of Hilary Mantel’s latest novel The Mirror and the Light or Philip Pullman’s The Secret Commonwealth, narrated by Michael Sheen. Being a big fan of His Dark Materials series I chose the latter and have really enjoyed catching up with Lyra’s latest adventures, without having to step outside!
Many library services throughout the country provide opportunities for online borrowing. Contact your local library for information. B&NES residents can access online library services, see https://beta.bathnes.gov.uk/digital-facilities-and-resources. The library service is also using its social media pages to promote everything from home education links to craft ideas and book reviews.
